Violin

David Laing - ViolinDavid began playing the violin as an 8-year-old. After gaining places with some of the best youth orchestras in Scotland including the prestigious National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, David went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the RSAMD), graduating with a Masters degree. Whilst at the RCS David was awarded the Bessie Spence and Robert Highgate prizes for Violin playing, and was leader of the Academy Symphony Orchestra

After completing his studies David went on to freelance with the Orchestra of the Scottish Opera as well as the Scottish Concert Orchestra.  Over the years David has gained extensive experience of playing in string quartets, ceilidh bands, wedding bands and chamber ensembles, and his fiddling skills are always in high-demand at Burns Suppers.

As with the other members of Capella, David has worked extensively as a session musician and has played all over the world in this capacity.

David currently splits his time between running Capella String Quartet with Alan, teaching violin to primary and secondary school pupils, and conducting and co-ordinating various youth orchestras.
