Lorna Geller
Lorna is originally from Ayrshire and aged 10 won a scholarship to study at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh, where she spent the next 8 years. She funded her onward studies with world-renowned teacher David Takeno by winning various prestigious awards including a Virtuosi Society bursary, the Waddell Prize, and the generous support of the Donald Dewar Trust.
Following a degree from Oxford University, she moved to London for postgraduate studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has gone on to work as a successful freelance violinist with many orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as a trialing sub-principal 2nd violin, and most recently back home with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. She also plays baroque violin, and has extensive experience as a session musician including credits as solo violinist on soundtracks for the BBC drama ‘Mayday’, the Channel 4 documentary ‘Guilty Pleasures’.
She is also now kept delightfully busy in her role as a musician for Sistema Scotland at it’s new Big Noise Centre in Govanhill, where she shares her passion for music with young children from all over the world and from all walks of life.
Lorna is really happy to finally be in Scotland again, working with the amazing Capella musicians, and is loving every minute.
